Multi-medium engineering towards a better world.
Multi-medium engineering towards a better world.
I'm Elliot.
I've always been one to tinker: the sort of engineering where you discover the essential 'why' behind something and then try to improve the 'how'. Today, that looks a little more cohesive because of my experience at Cal Poly - from analysis in class, design projects, and living much of my life in the machine shops - but that is backed by a history of multi-medium creativity and journalistic attention to accuracy. I grew up living that duality: robotics competitions, woodworking, and tinkering with computers while writing articles, playing French Horn, taking photos, and making videos. My goal is to merge the two into creative engineering; effective, innovative, human-centered, and intuitive products require art & analysis.
At the end of the day, I want to build products that make lives better. Doing that requires more than just engineering, and thus I base my area of interest off of three factors instead of a field of study:
Interest adj.
Creative inspiration.
Beneficiality adj.
Net positivity.
Novelty adj.
Newness; originality.
My work so far has been following those three - across aerospace, media, & industrial design - in search for a project worth doing. Recent rabbitholes I've investigated include:
smart material-driven design (MDD),
vehicle engineering (Baja SAE, boat engineering, bicycle building)
novel aviation (Joby S4)
advanced manufacturing-derived design (AM & generative design)
